Around 2,500 demonstrated gathered outside the Presidential Palace in Warsaw, Sunday, demanding an international, and independent investigation be set up into the causes of the April 10 Smolensk disaster.
Crowds shouted: “We want the truth”.
The protest was organised by the April 10 Movement, which expressed, in a letter addressed to Prime Minister Donald Tusk, a distrust of the current Russian-Polish investigation into the tragedy which killed President Lech Kaczynski and 95 others.

"Because of the exceptional importance to the Polish nation of the presidential plane crash near Smolensk, on 10 April 2010, which killed the President of the Republic, Lech Kaczynski, and the heads of key institutions of the Polish state, and because it occurred not in Poland but in another country, we turn to you, Prime Minister, to establish an independent, international commission to examine the causes of the disaster," reads the letter.

The protestors then set about collecting signatures in support of their demands. “We are collecting support in order to establish an international commission which could determine the cause of the Smolensk disaster better than both the Polish government and Russian side,” said one of the leaders of the protest Przemyslaw Wipler.

In his view the investigation was not being managed correctly, and pointed to reports last week of personal effects of those who died in the tragedy found one kilometre from Smolesnk airport.
Russia has since promised to increase security at the site.
On Sunday, acting president Bronislaw Komorowski visited the area of the crash following his attendance at the VE Day anniversary celebrations in Moscow. During a press conference after he laid a wreath in memory of those who died, Komorowski said he hoped the crash site would be adequately secured and constantly watched over. He also thanked the Russian people for their kindness following the tragedy.

Unfortunately, the truth will be buried in the stampede for "reconciliation" with the gangsters in Moscow...
