Russkiy Mir has opened a Russian Room at Children’s library of the city of Dubasari, which became the fourth venue of the kind in Transnistria.
After a ribbon cutting ceremony the Russkiy Mir Foundation presented the new venue with DVDs, collections of poems by Russian writers, and books on the Russian history (176 copies in total). Head of the Children’s library Vera Krishtal thanked the foundation for this initiative and noted that the library has never received such a huge donation of books since the collapse of the USSR.
According to Chairman of the city Supreme Council Anatoly Kaminsky, opening of the Russian Room will allow everyone to enhance language skills and to raise awareness about the Russian culture and literature.
“This wonderful initiative unites us all, and shows that Russia is close to us,” said Olga Gukalenko, Chairwoman of the Committee for Education, Science, Culture, Family and Children.
Opening of the Russian Room became a vital event for the city, since the library fund has not been boosted since the collapse of the Soviet Union. “…The Russkiy Mir Foundation has opened over 50 Russian Rooms all over the world; and I am happy that today our city hosts the opening of another venue of the kind,” said Pyotr Pasat, Deputy of the Supreme Council.
Last year the foundation opened Russian Rooms in a couple of other Transnistrian towns – Tiraspol and Grigoriopol. Apart from that, there is the Russian Center at the University of Transnistria."
